How many social media platforms should I post on?
We get this question quite a bit form new businesses, established businesses, influencers and more.
The number of social media channels a business should post on depends on factors like industry, target audience, resources, and goals. However, here are some general guidelines:
1. The “Big Three” Approach (Minimum)
For most businesses, focusing on the three core platforms is a good balance:
LinkedIn
(B2B, professional audience)
Instagram
(visual content, engagement)
Facebook
(community building, paid ads)
2. Expanding to 4-5 Platforms
If your business has the resources, consider adding:
TikTok
(short-form videos, younger audience)
X (Twitter)
(real-time updates, thought leadership)
YouTube
(long-form video content)
3. Industry-Specific Additions
• Pinterest – If you’re in fashion, home decor, or DIY
• Reddit & Quora – If your brand benefits from deep discussions
• Threads – If you’re experimenting with text-based engagement
Key Considerations:
Quality > Quantity
– Posting consistently on 3-5 well-managed
platforms is better than being inactive on 10.
Audience Behavior
– Focus on where your customers spend time.
Content Repurposing
– Tailor content to different platforms rather than copying the same post everywhere.
Once again, as we constantly say, is quality over quantity while keeping in mind that each platform offers it’s own userbase. Some people use LinkedIn, some people use Instagram, some people use TikTok. For companies pushing a product or service it is good to be active across all the platforms you have the time to post quality content on.
